Each application file is evaluated by a Selection Committee and has to be approved by the Registrar’s Office, irrespective of the diploma obtained.
- Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years from a university or recognized equivalent. Good overall scores (at least a Second class or equivalent, preferably higher) are recommended.
- Applicants are expected to have a basic science training in mathematics, physics (mechanics and electromagnetism) and chemistry.
Language requirements
The applicant must be proficient in English. The English language proficiency must be demonstrated by providing a certificate of one of the following tests:
- CEFR B2
- TOEFL-TEST: at least 510 – 559 (paper-based), or 72 – 94 (internet-based)
- IELTS ‘Academic Test Report Form’ (TRF): at least 6.0
- ITACE for students with ERK score B2, issued by UGent Language Centre, Linguapolis (UA), KU Leuven or Academisch Centrum voor taalonderwijs (ACTo, VUB)
- certificate B2 by an university language centre
- certificate Practical English 5 of English for Written Academic Purposes from UGent Language Centre
- B2 First (former Cambridge English, First certificate in English (FCE))
- Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): at least 59 – 75.
Are exempt from submitting a certificate B2 English:
- students having successfully completed at least one year of secondary education with English as language of instruction, or having successfully completed secondary school in a Belgian institution;
- students having successfully completed programme units in higher education with a minimum of 54 ECTS-credits where English was the language of instruction. A certificate that the language of instruction was English has to be submitted for institutions in countries where English is not the national language.
